What remains of human connection when boundaries—physical, technological, or cultural—stand between us?

Synchrony is a hybrid electronic performance by vocalist/electronic artist Susie Green and saxophonist Kyle Hutchins that explores this question through sound, visuals, and collaborative expression. Structured in three movements, the piece begins with pure acoustic dialogue between saxophone and voice, establishing a musical synchrony rooted in centuries of shared performance traditions. As technology is introduced—first transforming one performer, then the other—their connection evolves across changing contexts, bridging spacetime through shared expression.

In its final movement, both performers inhabit an integrated technological space, neither surrendering to nor resisting technology, but using it as an extension of human connection. Throughout the performance, visualizations based on EEG data gathered during rehearsal sessions offer a glimpse into the performers’ neural activity—revealing the invisible architecture of synchrony that underlies our interactions.

Synchrony is featured at the Miami Music Festival After-Party, transforming the Knight Center’s Hormel Stage into an immersive, multi-sensory environment. Joined by the Frost Laptop Ensemble and the Contemporary Media Electronic Instrument Studio, the event reimagines the festival experience by bringing together live performance, electronic media, and scientific exploration.

As sound, science, and story intertwine, Synchrony invites you to consider your own connections—how they endure, adapt, and sometimes strengthen across the divides we face in today’s complex world.
