With performances by The Frost Laptop Ensemble & Contemporary Media Electronic Instrument Studio
How do
we stay connected across distance and difference, and what happens when
electronic instruments become the bridge?
Synchrony is a
hybrid performance by vocalist/electronic artist Susie Green and
saxophonist Kyle Hutchins that explores human connection through sound,
visuals, and collaborative expression. The festival features the Frost
Laptop Ensemble and Contemporary Media Electronic Instrument Studio students,
tracing an evolution from acoustic dialogue to integrated technological
spaces, where performers use technology as an extension of human connection
rather than surrendering to or resisting it.
When electronics
join the conversation as equal voices, the musical dialogue between all
instruments—acoustic and electronic—creates entirely new vocabularies for
connection & expression that dissolve constructs.
Throughout the
performances, visualizations based on performers' brain data offer a glimpse
into the invisible architecture of synchrony that underlies our interactions.
Taking place at
the Miami Music Festival After-Party, Synchrony transforms the Knight Center's
Hormel Stage into an immersive, multi-sensory environment. The
evening reimagines the festival experience by bringing together live
performance, electronic media, and scientific exploration across multiple acts
and collaborative pieces.
As sound,
science, and story intertwine throughout the night, Synchrony invites you to
consider your own connections—how they endure, adapt, and sometimes strengthen
across the divides we face in today's complex world.
"Synchrony has been made possible in part by a grant from
Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology."
