Make it a date to remember—celebrate love with jazz this Valentine's Day! Twice GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Chico Pinheiro, praised by DownBeat as “one of the brightest lights on today’s Brazilian jazz scene,” teams with Frost Extensions, Jazz Vocal I, and Jazz Vocal II for a night of lush harmonies, samba grooves, and melodies, blending Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, and swing.
ABOUT CHICO PINHEIRO
An exceptional guitarist with a beautiful sound and great fluidity, and a unique composer who blends Brazilian music, classical music, and jazz, Chico Pinheiro has been nominated twice for a Grammy Award (in 2019 and 2020).
Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, he began playing the guitar at the age of six. By 14, he was already working as a studio session guitarist and soon began collaborating with a wide range of artists — first in his hometown, then across Brazil, and eventually internationally.
His discography has earned consistent, top‑tier recognition. His debut Meia Noite Meio Dia (Sony, 2003) and follow‑up Chico Pinheiro (Biscoito Fino, 2005) both landed in the “Top 10 Brazilian Albums of the Year” lists of O Estado de São Paulo, Folha de São Paulo, and O Globo. NOVA (2007), a collaboration with guitarist Anthony Wilson, received similar critical praise, while There’s a Storm Inside (Sunnyside, 2010)—released in 35 countries and featuring Dianne Reeves and Bob Mintzer—was named one of the year’s best by DownBeat, Rolling Stone, and leading Brazilian media, also winning Latin Jazz Corner’s awards for Best Brazilian Jazz Album, Best Latin Jazz Composition (“Mamulengo”), and Best Latin Jazz Guitarist. His 2012 release TRIZ, with André Mehmari and Sergio Santos, continued that streak of acclaim.
Chico has been recognized three times as a "Rising Star – Guitar" in DownBeat Magazine's Annual Critics Poll.
Today, Chico Pinheiro is regarded as a leading figure within — and beyond — the Brazilian music scene. He has distinguished himself not only as a guitarist, but also as a composer and arranger.
