Stage deaths are some of the most memorable moments in theatre — dramatic, tragic, cathartic, or even hilarious. But what makes a stage death truly land with the audience?

In this interactive 90-minute workshop, participants will explore the art and craft of dying on stage— not just the physical collapse, but the dramatic storytelling behind a final moment. Through guided exercises, we’ll investigate:

• The function of a stage death — what it means for the story and other characters.

• Tools of performance — voice, breath, silence, and intention.

• Styles of dying — from realism to heightened tragedy to comedic exaggeration.

• Partner and ensemble work — how to respond to and support a death on stage.

• Safety and repeatability — making bold choices you can perform night after night.

Participants will experiment with short scenes, practice variations on final lines and last breaths, and reflect on how endings can be as powerful as beginnings. No experience necessary — just bring your imagination (and your best dying words).

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with practical tools, a few new dramatic skills, and at least one truly unforgettable stage death under your belt.
