In today’s industry, the self-tape is often your first (and sometimes only) shot at booking the job. This ongoing class is designed to help actors sharpen both the technical and performance aspects of the self-tape audition process.

How it works:

Weekly Assignments: Each week, students receive a new scene to prepare and self-tape. Tapes are due by Wednesday at 10AM (uploaded to Google Drive).  No self-tape assignment is due before class #1, but rather a script we will email the day before that we ask you to be familiar with.

Class Format:

We begin each session with individualized feedback on submitted self-tapes - breaking down both performance and technical aspects (framing, lighting, sound, eye line, pacing, etc.).

Actors then rework the scene live in class with a reader-style partner, incorporating the feedback and getting real-time notes from the instructor.

Through weekly practice and direct feedback, you'll build confidence in both the technical and performance sides of self-taping. You'll develop a reliable self-tape setup, learn how to make fast and grounded choices, and refine your on-camera audition technique. The class will help you become more comfortable directing yourself, responding to notes, and adapting quickly, all in a supportive, collaborative environment that mirrors the pace and pressure of real casting situations.

SNOW/ICE PROTOCOLS:

In the event of inclement weather, in-studio classes will be held virtually instead. Please check your email and/or our social media channels before you head out. If you don’t receive an email or see a posting on social media, assume the class is meeting as usual.
