In
this four-week intensive, you will collaborate on newly written short films written by local screenwriters. Under the direction and coaching of Becki
Dennis, you’ll work alongside other experienced actors to rehearse, refine,
and ultimately film your scenes just as you would on a professional set.
The
class unfolds in a structured, immersive progression. The first week focuses on
building the ensemble through a cast meet-and-greet, a full table read, and
initial cold reads off-camera. In the second week, you’ll continue off-camera
rehearsals while also incorporating some filmed run-throughs on the iPad to
help strengthen performance choices and on-camera awareness. Weeks three and
four function as true shoot days, during which actors are expected to be fully
off-book and prepared to work within a set-like environment as they bring the
short film to life.
While
participants will receive footage from this process, the emphasis of the class
is not on creating demo material but on gaining real-world on-set
experience: taking direction effectively, responding authentically in the
moment, supporting scene partners, and consistently delivering strong, truthful
work.
This
class is intended for experienced actors who have completed “Script to Set:
Acting New Scenes,” taken other acting training, and/or have prior on-set
experience performing dialogue. Please note that any material filmed in class can be used by scene partners or classmates for reels, portfolios, and acting profiles.
