Close Looking: An Introduction to Digital Photography Instructor: Elizabeth Hopkins Learn how to hone your eye and tell stories through pictures in this beginner-friendly digital photography workshop. Over the course of eight sessions, you will learn to master digital camera operations, the ins and outs of manual exposure, as well as composition and framing. We will explore different genres, including landscape, portrait, and abstract photography, using our immediate environs in Watertown as a site of play and exploration. Toward the end of the course, students will build upon their newfound knowledge to sequence and create their own photo zine, featuring pictures they’ve made throughout the class. Students will come away with a deeper understanding of how images convey narrative, theme, and feeling, through use of compositional elements such as light, form, and color. Please note: Students must provide their own digital camera. DSLRs or mirrorless cameras are welcome.
