A Workshop for High School Students & Teachers
Finding Your Voice with Creative Nonfiction
Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 9:00AM

The Mark Twain House & Museum
351 Farmington Ave
Hartford, CT 06105

Infuse your voice into creative nonfiction at a full-day workshop designed especially for high school sophomores/juniors and high school teachers.

Saturday, May 9, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at The Mark Twain House & Museum. Tickets are $15.

Led by Poet Laureate and Nook Farm Writers Collaborative master teaching artist Victoria Nordlund, along with Danielle Pieratti and Jane Cook from the Connecticut Writing Project, this immersive experience invites participants to explore personal narrative, craft, and authentic voice in a supportive, inspiring setting.

All participants will begin the day with a private tour of Twain's historic house as inspiration for the day's writing. Participants will then practice writing in nonfiction genres such as memoir, journalism, and the college essay as they experiment across styles and techniques to help them develop and strengthen their unique voices as writers.

We invite high school sophomores and juniors, as well as high school teachers, to join us for a day that offers meaningful opportunities for reflection, experimentation, and growth as writers.

Note: Each person attending, whether student or teacher, should purchase their own ticket. Students and teachers are not required to come in pairs from the same school, though we welcome it!

This program is co-sponsored by the Nook Farm Writers Collaborative at The Mark Twain House & Museum and the Connecticut Writing Project at the University of Connecticut, with funds from the CT State Department of Education.
