Howard Community College’s Visual Arts Department
presents our
2026 Summer Visiting Artist - Zofia Chamera
Zofia Chamera earned her BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture
at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2020 and her MFA in Studio
Art from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in 2022. Chamera’s
foundation is in traditional mediums such as clay, wax, and bronze, however she
began exploring handmade paper and how it can be applied to sculpture. She is
constantly pushing the structural boundaries of this medium and with that
challenging the conflict of fine art versus craft.
Chamera currently serves as Adjunct Faculty teaching
Historic Papermaking at MICA and as a Papermaking Associate at Pyramid Atlantic
Art Center, maintaining both papermaking studios. Her work has been shown in
the National Sculpture Society Gallery in Manhattan, New York as well as local
galleries in Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA. Most notably, she was selected
to participate in the Lucca Biennale Outdoor Exhibition in Tuscany, Italy and
the IMADATE Art Field Residency in Echizen, Japan.

Join Zofia Chamera for a hands-on, one-day papermaking workshop that
invites students and community members alike to explore the art of handmade
paper. This welcoming studio experience offers a chance to slow down and
discover the fundamentals of papermaking—from preparing pulp to pulling,
pressing, and drying your own sheets. Experiment with natural materials
and the creative potential of one-of-a-kind papers that can stand alone as
artworks or serve as the foundation for future creative projects. No prior experience
is necessary—bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. By the end
of this workshop, you’ll leave with a collection of handmade papers and the
knowledge to continue exploring this rewarding and tactile process on your own.
By participating in this program, participants grant the college permission to photograph, record, or otherwise document them and their work. Images and likeness by be used in print, digital, and other communications for promotional or educational purposes.
