The Theater Offensive X Doris Duke Foundation present:
Creative Labor / Creative Conditions
Boston, while the birthplace of the American Revolution and many advancements to our present-day culture, is still finding its revolutionary status as not only an artistic hub, but a place for all of its people to thrive. It has all of the promise and simply needs that push off the edge to invoke cultural change. This is where our collaboration comes into play. Once the birthplace of some of our greatest theatrical works, such as Carousel, Boston’s commitment to arts and creativity must be renewed and strengthened as we continue to face ongoing threats to not only our sector, but at the core our humanity. In order for creative labor and creative conditions to exist, we must create a world in which they can first and foremost exist.
As the Doris Duke Foundation aspires to bring its Creative Labor Creative Conditions to Boston, there are infinite possibilities to explore as we work in tandem to bookend the celebration of this country’s birth and continue our commitment to its longevity, even when its government is committed to eradicating our respective truths and ultimately, our existence.
There is a reason why in times of war, art and those who create it are some of the first to be eliminated. It is our duty to preserve the humanity for whom we create a culture. We must equip ourselves for battle.
These conversations will allow attendees to pause and reflect on where our humanity was, where we are now, and how we can protect and ensure that we have a future where creative labor and conditions are thriving.
