An Evening with Liz Diller

The Glass House welcomes architect Elizabeth Diller for an evening of design, conversation, and dining. In conversation with Spencer Bailey, Diller will trace the arc of her practice—from civic landmarks that reshaped New York, including the High Line and The Shed, to the more recent V&A East Storehouse in London and Al-Mujadilah Center & Mosque for Women in Doha. The conversation follows a major honor: in 2025, DS+R received the Golden Lion for Best Participation at the Venice Biennale of Architecture for Canal Café.

Elizabeth Diller is a Professor of Architectural Design at Princeton University and the Co-Founding Partner of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), a New York-based design studio founded in 1981 whose practice spans ambitious cultural, educational, and civic work. Diller was the first architect, alongside her partner Ricardo Scofidio, to receive the MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant," recognized for demonstrating “that architecture, when understood as the physical manifestation of social relationships, is everywhere, not just in buildings.” Alongside urban-scale and institutional projects, Diller develops independent performing arts, curatorial, and installation projects. In 2025, DS+R received the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Canal Cafe. Diller is a member of the UN Council on Urban Initiatives and received the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal from The Municipal Arts Society, in recognition of how her architectural vision has enriched New York City's built environment.

Spencer Bailey is founder and editor-in-chief of the media company The Slowdown and host of the Time Sensitive podcast. He is also editor-at-large of the book publisher Phaidon. A writer, editor, and journalist, Bailey has written at length about architecture, art, culture, and design, and contributed to publications such as Town & Country, The New York Times Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Fortune. From 2013 to 2018, he was editor-in-chief of Surface magazine. He is the author of several books, including In Memory Of: Designing Contemporary Memorials (Phaidon). Currently, he is overseeing the editorial direction of a five-volume book series celebrating The Leading Hotels of the World, published by the Phaidon imprint Monacelli. Bailey has spoken at or moderated live talks at venues including the Aspen Ideas Festival, Cannes Lions, and the 92nd Street Y, and has been on the juries of the Hyères Design Parade festival, the CFDA Fashion Awards, the James Beard Restaurant Design Awards, the Rado Star Prize, and the Swarovski Designers of the Future Award. Bailey also serves on the board of trustees of the Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, New York, as well as on the advisory council of The Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut.
