The Suffolk University Theatre Department

proudly presents their Fall 2026 Mainstage Production:

SWIVE [ELIZABETH]

by ELLA HICKSON

Directed by A. Nora Long

Swive: (archaic, vulgar) To copulate with (a woman).

Queen Elizabeth I, the only unmarried woman to rule England, reigned for forty-four years. Mastermind. Seductress. Survivor.

Elizabeth was a political mastermind and monarchic force who reigned supreme for decades, and yet never felt secure in her position. Swive interrogates the power of aesthetics in gaining and maintaining control in a patriarchy, exploring the savage pressure that women are under to sell themselves on their least interesting quality in a modern mash-up of Tudor history and feminist horror. If beauty is the key to survival, how do you hold on to what time will take away?
