How a story is told should depend on the story. Each deserves its own stage.
In A Broader Way Michel Martin convenes playwrights from diverse walks of life to take audiences through the Broadway landscape and explore how theater artists are challenging a canon that has traditionally been by, for and about the White experience. This is not radio playing out on stage, but rather a dynamic, interactive live experience where issues are analyzed through the narrative and dialogue of the people living it. Players with different perspectives, histories and experiences will be connected in civil discourse to share ideas, hopes, frustrations and solutions.
Join us as Michel sits down with David Henry Hwang, writer of the Tony award-winning play, M. Butterfly, Bruce Norris, writer of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play Clybourne Park, Lydia Diamond, award-winning playwright of Stick Fly and Pulitzer-Prize finalist, playwright Kristoffer Diaz.
Tony-Award nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson will perform an excerpt from August Wilson’s American Century Cycle.
Pianist Elio Villafranca, at the forefront of the latest generation of great Cuban pianists, is the featured artist at the after party.
However the story demands to be told, Michel will tell it.
The circle will be wide. The audience, engaged.
