ShakeCo Radio Theater will present its annual reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 2013 at 2:00pm at MuCCC, the Multi-use Community Cultural Center, 142 Atlantic Avenue, Rochester. “ShakeCo Radio Theater” shows are “Pay What You Will” productions and all proceeds will benefit the MuCCC. Hearkening back to the days before television, ShakeCo Radio Theater will endeavor to recreate the mood and styles that once dominated the airwaves. ShakeCo’s fourth Annual production of “A Christmas Carol” is presented as a dramatic reading of the classic tale. About “A Christmas Carol”: Charles Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” in 1843 as an attempt to stir the British public to an awareness of the poverty and hardships around them. Its tale of a miserly old man who learns the importance of generosity and “Christmas spirit” was an immediate success and has been in continual print to this day. It was first adapted to the stage within months of publication and is one of the most-filmed stories in cinematic history. Dickens himself took to reading the tale to audiences and “Carol” was the work he chose for his farewell performance, mere months before his death. About the Company: ShakeCo: The Shakespeare Company of Greater Rochester is a locally based small-scale production company devoted primarily to the performance of Shakespeare’s works throughout the Greater Rochester area. The Company put on it’s first production, “Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”, in August of 2000 and produced nine shows over the next five years. LATECOMERS WILL NOT BE ADMITTED. http://muccc.org/events/?p=17105
