An introduction to James Joyce for Irish Arts Center’s youngest audience, featuring a reading of The Cats of Copenhagen and a children’s book-making workshop.

The Cats of Copenhagen was first written for Joyce’s most beloved audience, his only grandson,Stephen James Joyce, and sent in a letter dated September 5, 1936. Based on the letters, The Cats of Copenhagen reveals the modernist master at his most playful and is a treasure for readers of all ages. The short story, illustrated by Casey Sorrow in a style reminiscent of Edward Gorey and beautifully typeset by book artist Michael Caine, was only recently rediscovered and makes an offbeat but characteristically masterful addition to Joyce’s well-known body of work.
