In this unique workshop, students develop their own material while studying the history of queer performance in NYC, and meeting the great queer artists of our day (like Penny Arcade, Susana Cook, Miguel Gutierrez, Erin Markey, Reno, Peggy Shaw, Carmelita Tropicana, Jack Waters and more...). Theater artist and Helix Queer Performance Network director Dan Fishback facilitates NEEDING IT based on the pedagogical techniques of performance artist and original Split Britches member Deb Margolin. NEEDING IT is part of an ongoing education initiative of The Helix Queer Performance Network, a collaboration between La Mama Experimental Theatre Club, The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics and BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange seeking to empower queer performers, unite diverse communities and celebrate the legacy and lineage of queer performance in New York City.
