Though best known for her 1970 R&B crossover smash hit, “Band of Gold,” Detroit’s sultry Freda Payne is a jazz singer in the beautiful tradition of Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald. Her musical versatility and elegant stage appeal keep her in high demand as a touring artist. Here she sings “Save Your Love for Me” plus other enthralling selections with a trio featuring the Frost School’s Dean Shelly Berg on piano. Payne’s latest album, Come Back to Me Love, is a perfect showcase for her inventive artistry.
