Join weekend host of All Things Considered host Michel Martin for an evening of conversation, storytelling, and performance around the Chicago Freedom Movement as it was fifty years ago, and as it stands today.

In 1966, Martin Luther King Jr. came to Chicago to help lead the Civil Rights Movement in a new direction: fighting segregated housing and economic inequality in the North. King moved into a slum apartment on Chicago’s West Side, connecting with local leaders and citizens to confront the systemic racism that gripped the city. Five decades later, we’ll hear from those who were on the front lines, as well as from a new generation of activists and artists who are writing the next chapter of civil rights history in Chicago. The past and future of the city’s search for equality and respect across racial lines will be explored through rich dialogue and lively music. Michel will be joined on stage by...
