Modeled after Sean O'Riada's Cór Cúil Aodha, An Cór Gaelach is a community-based choir that exclusively sings Irish language songs. The choir promotes community outreach, Irish language learning, community music making and Irish cultural education. Interested singers do not need previous experience in singing or the Irish language, although such experience is preferable.

The choir is led by ethnomusicologist Colin Harte. Colin has taught music and ethnomusicology for ten years at the University of Florida and in the New York State public school system. He earned his doctorate in ethnomusicology from the University of Florida in 2015. He received his Master’s in Ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick. As a NYC Teaching Fellows, he received a Master’s in Education from CUNY-Lehman College while teaching band, general music and percussion ensemble at a Bronx, public middle school. As a pianist and bodhrán percussionist, Colin Harte founded, managed and performed with the University of Florida Irish Traditional Music Ensemble. He is also active as pianist and bodhrán percussionist in New York City. He has published in ICTM-Ethnomusicology Ireland, The SAGE Encyclopedia of Ethnomusicology, New Hibernia Review, Folk Music Journal, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, Chasqui: Revista de Literatura Latinoamericana, The Ethnomusicologists’ Cookbook: Complete Meals from Around the World (an edited volume), amongst others.
