The Bloomington Blues & Boogie Woogie Piano Festival


Are you ready for the 3rd Bloomington Boogies Festival? On August 13, 2017, enjoy acclaimed blues and boogie woogie pianists, dancers, food and beverages at the 3rd annual Bloomington Blues & Boogie Woogie Piano Festival! With ticketed and free performances and educational components for students, be prepared to be moved by the artistry of the musicians and get ready to shake your booty! Purchase tickets early – they usually sell out in advance!

There are two ticketed concerts in the Ivy Tech John Waldron Whikehart Auditorium, 122 S. Walnut St., Bloomington, IN, on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017. The first begins at 2 p.m., the second at 5:30 p.m. General admission for each is $20 in advance; or purchase the "all-day pass" - tickets to both purchased in advance for $15 each, for a total of $30! Tickets for seniors (60+) and students are $18 per show in advance, $28 if both are purchased in advance. Tickets for children 12 and under are $15 per show in advance, or $25 if both shows are purchased in advance.

The 2 p.m. concert features Bob Seeley,“best boogie woogie player on the planet," according to Dick Hyman; C. J. Chenier --son of the great Clifton Chenier. Multi-instrumentalist, C. J., delivers soulful vocals and accordion, and promises that you will “break a smile and stomp your foot before too long!” Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne - multiple-award winning blues, boogie-woogie, jazzman known as “Blues Boss”; Bill Sims, Jr. – multi-instrumentalist, founder of the Heritage Blues Orchestra; Josh Paxton - New Orleans pianist/leader and sideman with Crescent City greats performing New Orleans Rhythm & Blues piano; Craig Brenner – “Indiana’s finest,” festival founder, leader of Craig & The Crawdads; Gordon Bonham/guitar, Joe Donnelly/sax, Ron Kadish/bass, and Dan Hostetler/drums; and “Finale” with performers.

The 5:30 p.m. concert features Bob Seeley - “best boogie woogie player on the planet"; C. J. Chenier - Son of the great Clifton Chenier, multi-instrumentalist C. J. delivers soulful vocals and accordion and promises you will "break a smile and stomp your foot before too long!"; Rob Rio – virtuoso boogie woogie and jump blues pianist who has excited audiences for 35+ years; Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne - multiple-award winning blues, boogie-woogie, jazzman known as “Blues Boss”; Mitch Woods - torchbearer of jump n’ boogie outfits of the late '40s/early '50s, creator of “rock-a-boogie”;Gordon Bonham/guitar, Joe Donnelly/sax, Ron Kadish/bass, and Dan Hostetler/drums; and "Grand Finale" with all performers. Note: performers subject to change.

Purchase of a ticket provides free admission to the film I AM THE BLUES, in partnership with Festival Sponsor The Ryder Magazine and Film Series. Of interest to blues, boogie woogie and other music lovers, the documentary journeys through the Louisiana Bayou, juke joints of the Mississippi Delta, and Moonshine soaked BBQs in North Mississippi Hill Country, visiting blues musicians rooted in the genre's heyday, many in their 80s still living in the deep south and touring the Chitlin Circuit. Includes blues pianist Henry Gray, Bobby Rush, Barbara Lynn, Carol Fran, Little Freddie King, Lazy Lester, Bilbo Walker, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, RL Boyce, LC Ulmer, and Lil’ Buck Sinegal. Exact date, time and location to be announced.

Refreshments by DATS on Grant – Cajun/Creole food, soft drinks, water; La Poblana Taco Truck – authentic Mexican food; Limestone BBQ & More Catering – BBQ; Salt Creek Brewery – award-winning hand-crafted beer; and Cardinal Spirits – high quality distilled spirits.

Informal performances at Bloomington Boogies After Hours at Malibu Grill on the Square, 106 N. Walnut St., 8 p.m., hosted by Katharina Alber

Concerts at Fairview and Templeton Elementary Schools on Aug. 14, for students, faculty, staff, followed by piano workshops at each school (workshop pre-registration at festival website required).


Day of the Show Details
Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the show. Each concert will run approximately two hours.

Ticket prices will increase on the day of the show to $25 for General Admission and $20 for Students & Seniors.

Remaining available tickets will be sold at the door for cash or check only.
