Cassie and Helene are granddaughter and grandmother, yet barely knew each other- they were connected by DNA and by mental illness. Born in 1917, Helene never sought treatment and lived a tumultuous, sad, and troubled life, while Cassie, born in 1990, sought treatment after growing tired of fighting her illness. Jumping between two time periods, Cassie chronicles how a life with mental illness can go so right and another can go up in flames.
