Amethyst House Presents
2018 Iris Dement (w/ Busman's Holiday)
Friday, November 9, 2018 at 8:00PM

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater
114 E. Kirkwood Ave.
Bloomington, IN 47408

Amethyst House is delighted to present Iris Dement for its 6th Annual Benefit Concert.

Iris DeMent possesses an instantly recognizable voice: powerful and crisp, capable of both heartbreaking brittleness and raise-the-roof-to-the-rafters force. Her piano playing comes out of the Pentecostal church tradition in which she grew up, with elements of both the sacred and profane intermittently mixed. For her most recent album, Way with Words, DeMent takes a unique turn, adapting 18 poems by 20th century Russian poet Anna Akhmatova to music using little more than her piano and tremulous voice.

Iris DeMent is a two-time Grammy nominated singer and songwriter whose musical style includes elements of folk, country and gospel. Most recently, she was awarded the Americana Trailblazer Award at the 2017 Americana Music Honors & Awards. You might recognize her song "Our Town" from the closing credits of the final episode of Northern Exposure and her song "Let the Mystery Be" which was featured in the opening scenes of the film Little Buddha and then became the theme for the opening credits of the HBO Series The Leftovers. In addition to 6 critically acclaimed solo albums of Ms. Dement has sung widely popular duets with John Prine, Steve Earle, and Emmylou Harris and is featured on the albums of many other performers.

Lewis and Addison Rogers are brothers who make pop-music together. When they do this, they go by Busman's Holiday. The two bring a playful and enriching balance to one another. Lewis plays guitar, and Addison plays his modest drum kit. Busman’s Holiday songs are finely crafted to tell exceptional stories of everyday lives, and they are able to do this with melodies that keep you singing along. Independently, the brothers have played in support of artists both various and sundry.

Purchase a VIP ticket and get front-of-house seating as well as admission to the VIP reception at 6:30pm before the show.
