Mark Stevens steps into the role of Mel Tormé in VELVET FOG, a one-man performance highlighting the life and music of one of the greatest singers show business has ever seen. The show is a series of vignettes interspersed with many signature songs from Mel’s long career.

Stevens weaves a delightful tale around Tormé, recounting Mel’s start in show business at The Blackhawk Restaurant in Chicago as a featured singer at the age of four and, moving through Mel’s golden years, audiences are treated to his encounters and relationships along the way with such bright lights as Richard Rodgers, Judy Garland, Harry James, and Marilyn Monroe.

Stevens is a Chicago native and began his singing career at the age of twenty by sitting in at the Grapevine Jazz Club on the south side of Chicago. It was there he first heard the comment “Man, you sound just like Mel Tormé!” and that encouragement fueled his own passion for Tormé, motivating him to write VELVET FOG.

Stevens performs the show accompanied by an eleven-piece big band under the direction of Barry Winograd.
