114 E. Kirkwood Ave.
Tickets for this FREE event will be available at 11am on Monday, December 3rd.
Founded in 2008 by singers Mireya I. Ramos and Shae Fiol as New York City’s first all-women mariachi group, Flor de Toloache got their start performing as a harp, violin, and vihuela trio for subway riders. Today they perform as a full mariachi ensemble, featuring members who hail from Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Italy and the continental United States. Their most recent album, Las Caras Lindas, won a Latin Grammy for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album. In her review of the album, NPR’s Marisa Arbona-Ruiz said, “There should be fireworks named after this band, for all the intensity and color and life that bursts forth from Flor de Toloache.”
This event is part of the IU Arts and Humanities Council’s 2019 Global Arts and Humanities Festival Mexico Remixed.
Doors will open at 7pm for this general admission event. The event is expected to last about 2 hours.
