The film begins in Haiti in 1962 when a man who dropped dead in the street was brought back to work as a zombi on a sugar plantation. Cut to a boarding school for elite girls in present-day France. Students think one of their classmates, a Haitian orphan, possesses the secret of voodoo. But Zombi Child is not your everyday horror movie. Director Bertrand Bonello has bigger fish to fry, namely, racism, of course, but also the impact of history, which rarely stays in its grave. Played the Cannes, New York, and Toronto film festivals.
