Stages Bloomington Black Box Theatre
222 W 2nd St
A stirring piece of theatre presented in stories and song, this play puts a human face on the war that split the nation.
Powerfully evocative and engaging, Stephen Vincent Benét's lyrical work is a series of vignettes featuring ordinary and extraordinary characters grappling with life during the Civil War.
Adult and teen audiences will find it entertaining, powerful, and socially and historically relevant.
John Brown's Body is the third production in Stages Bloomington's 2018-2021 American Mosaic Theatre Series offering thought-provoking windows into our country’s history and experiences of being American. The series includes four classic American historical and literary narratives: Black Elk Speaks (past), Quilters (past), John Brown’s Body, and Big River (coming in the 2020-2021 season). Each explores key moments and themes in US history that have profoundly shaped its course. The series has the potential to shock, challenge, tug at heartstrings, and open possibilities for hope and understanding. The productions will be an eye opener for actors and audiences alike.
The Black Box Box Office will open one hour prior to each performance and the house will open thirty minutes prior. If the show has not sold out, tickets may be purchased at the door by cash or check only. Audiences will have a chance to discuss this piece with "Talk Backs" after the performances.
