Alongside the 2023 GCITA Award, a discussion with award nominee Regina Miranda, Artistic Director of Regina Miranda&ActorsDancers, Director of LABAN Rio, as well as Curator Perf. Arts for Artists4Peace, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. And LinDa Saphan, a Cambodian artist and social anthropologist, who has supported women artists from Cambodia, she is currently a sociology professor at College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York. She will also discuss the work of Cambodian GCITA Award nominee Morm Sokly. The panel explores the context of the panelists’ work through the lens of social reform and authoritarianism. Firstly, we acknowledge: the pervasive dangers artists experience and how safety is the priority; and the United States’s role and status related to social reform and authoritarianism. Further panelists TBA. Moderated by Catherine Filloux, playwright/librettist/ activist who has been writing about human rights for 30 years.
