New Center LIVE!
Dr. Jerome Groopman and Dr. Pamela Hartzband
Medical Minds
Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 7:30PM

Arsenal Center for the Arts
Charles Mosesian Theater
321 Arsenal St.
Watertown, MA 02472

Husband-and-wife doctors Jerome Groopman and Pamela Hartzband discuss how character and beliefs shape medical decisions and how hard it has become to hear one’s own voice over the din of pharmaceutical ads, online advice, and statistics. They also talk about how their own personalities and values have affected their medical decisions. Jerome Groopman, a staff writer for The New Yorker and bestselling author, is Chief of Experimental Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; his books include The Measure of Our Days, Second Opinions, and Anatomy of Hope. Pamela Hartzband is a noted endocrinologist and educator at Harvard Medical School; she is the co-author, with her husband, of the new book Your Medical Mind. Their conversation will be moderated by Joyce Kulhawik, a fixture on the Boston cultural scene since 1978 and a three-time cancer survivor; she was awarded the National Bronze Medal for her work for the American Cancer Society.
