This high-energy, intensive workshop focuses on building layers, using color, composition and images while balancing technique, content and expression. Heinrich will lead students through a variety of monoprinting techniques (non-toxic Xerox-litho transfers, stencils, chine colle and trace monotypes). Students will discover applications for monotypes and, explore different methods to create backgrounds and foregrounds using texture, mark-making and brushstrokes. Work with pattern, shape and personal imagery (from photographs or drawings) to create depth and dialog in one-of-a-kind work. Students should come prepared to work intuitively or with a plan to define their personal aesthetic. Some printmaking experience is suggested. Heinrich Toh received his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and studied at the La Salle College of the Arts in Singapore. He has taught workshops at the Pratt Fine Arts Center, Inkubator press in Kansas City and Bethel College in Newton Kansas. View Heinrich’s work at www.heinrichtoh.com.
