Thirdbird is excited to present its New York City debut with two evenings of experimental and contemporary dance and music as part of the Underground at the Abrons series.

The weekend, which offers two unique programs, is part of Thirdbird’s ongoing Seen & Heard series, an exploration of the intersections and commonality between movement, music and text in interdisciplinary performance practice. While diverse in form and subject matter, these nights reflect overlapping curiosities in artistic process, cross-discipline collaboration, and a raw, human affinity for both movement and sound.

The focus of Part 1 (Friday, April 6, 8pm) is on collaborative improvisation practice and features a group of award wining dance and music artist who have highly developed and refined voices. The evening includes two long-standing collaborations – 2011 Pew Fellow Charles Cohen’s Color is Luxury and PIMA Group – as well as two “Blind Dates”: never-seen-or-heard collaborations between acclaimed artists including musicians Gene Coleman, Shayna Dulberger, and Troy Herion, and dancers Nicole Bindler, Chase Granoff, and Joe Burgio.

Part 2 (Saturday, April 7, 8pm) features recent work by New York and Philadelphia based choreographers devynn emory, Gabrielle Revlock, and Annie Wilson. Focusing on the relation between words, movement and music these three short dance pieces each examine the way in which we wear ideas on our bodies.

Thirdbird is the Philadelphia-based recently named wing of the shared endeavors of Dustin Hurt (founder of Bowerbird) and Anna Drozdowski (proprietor of Ladybird). www.birdbirdbird.org
