Opening Night: 25 Years of the Columbia University Film Festival
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Columbia University Film Festival, the Opening Night presentation will be a retrospective and celebration at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. The evening will feature a selection of student shorts that represents the history and progression of the Film Program, the presentation of the annual Andrew Sarris Award to Malia Scotch Marmo, the screenwriter of such films as “Once Around” and “Hook,” plus surprise presenters and guests.
Thesis films by esteemed alumni that will be shown: “Swingin’ in the Painter’s Room” (1989), directed by Greg Mottola; “The Lunch Date” (1989), written and directed by Academy Award Winner Adam Davidson; "One Day Crossing" (2000), Academy Award Nominated film, screenplay by Christina Lazaridi, directed by Joan Stein, produced by Karen Severns; “Chicken Heads” (2009), written and directed by Bassam Jarbawi, produced by Ed Blythe; and “Off Season” (2010), written and directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, and produced by Jacob Jaffke, a film that was nominated for a BAFTA Award. Highlights from the work of other alums will also be featured, including Nicole Holofcener, Lisa Cholodenko, Kimberly Peirce, Courtney Hunt, and many others.
