Erica Brown and Ellen Goodman in conversation with Robin Young
Monday, April 15, 2013 at 7:30PM

Temple Shalom
175 Temple Street
West Newton, MA 02465

Most of us would prefer not to talk about death, even though we know it is one of life’s few certainties, but we ignore the subject at our own peril. Erica Brown and Ellen Goodman talk about the importance of end of life conversations—for individuals, families, and our society. Pulitzer Prize winning columnist and author Ellen Goodman is the co-founder of The Conversation Project, a national initiative to encourage every American to talk with their family and medical professionals about how they would like their lives to end. Dr. Erica Brown is a well-known writer and Jewish educator. Her new book, Happier Endings: Overcoming the Fear of Death, draws on both modern medicine and ancient spiritual traditions to help readers approach their own end, as well as those of loved ones. Brown and Goodman share stories of dignity and caring, and how imagining one’s demise without fear or denial can make the end of life a moment of empowerment. Their conversation will be moderated by Robin Young, award-winning host of WBUR’s “Here & Now.”
