Gary Green has a knack for programming incredible wind ensemble concerts, and this early spring offering is a perfect example. First, he conducts Robert Beaser’s Manhattan Roll. Originally composed for orchestra, it is presented here in a new transcription for wind band, commissioned by a consortium of university bands including the Frost Wind Ensemble. Then, Michael Hancock* conducts Concerto for 23 Winds by Robert Hartley, and Brent Alson* conducts Hill Song #2 by Percy Grainger. Gary Green returns to the podium to conduct Brooklyn Bridge by Michael Daugherty, inspired by four vistas of the New York skyline from the famous bridge, and featuring Margaret Donaghue as clarinet soloist. Michael Daugherty will be in attendance for this performance.
