2013 FSOM Impressionism and Beyond--Debussy, Ravel and Martinu
Gusman Concert Hall
Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 8:00PM

Gusman Concert Hall
1320 Miller Drive
Coral Gables, FL 33146

Associate Conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra/Frost School alumnus Cristian Mărcelaru B.M. ’03, returns to the Gusman Concert Hall stage as Guest Conductor with the Frost Symphony Orchestra. Last year Mărcelaru received the 2012 Sir George Solti Emerging Conductor Award, a prestigious honor only awarded once before in the foundation’s history. Recent engagements have included The Chicago, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and San Diego symphony orchestras. The program will include the impressionist worlds of Claude Debussy's controversial ballet "Jeux" with Maurice Ravel's sensual “Une Barque sur l’Ocean” and vital “Alborada del gracioso” from the Miroirs suite. The second half of the concert features the sweeping melodies and Czech rhythms of Bohuslav Martinů’s Symphony No. 1 – a work written for the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Serge Koussevitzky.
