Metropolitan Opera star soprano Dawn Upshaw and celebrated composer-conductor Maria Schneider perform the Florida premiere of their three-time Grammy Award winning project Winter Morning Walks with the Frost School’s Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. NPR describes it as “lyrical, flowing, intimately expressive… music to fall in love with the first time.” Dawn Upshaw was deemed “one of the most consequential performers of our time” by the Los Angeles Times and has performed at the Met over 300 times. Maria Schneider’s compositions are hailed as “evocative, majestic, magical.” In this amazing nine-part song cycle, Schneider melds her compositional mastery to the poetry of Ted Kooser, Poet Laureate of the United States from 2004 to 2006. The second half of the program features Schneider’s music set to English translations of Carlos Drummond de Andrade poetry by Mark Strand. Auditioned Frost Opera Theater singers, coached by Dawn Upshaw, will also participate.
