I'm Glad You Asked: An Evening of Jewish Advice
Liana Finck and Margo Howard in conversation with Meredith Goldstein
Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 7:30PM

Arsenal Center for the Arts
321 Arsenal St.
Watertown, MA 02472

How did the public dispensing of advice become such an important part of Jewish American culture, and why have so many advice columnists been Jewish? Artist and author Liana Finck and advice columnist Margo Howard tackle this question in a conversation moderated by The Boston Globe’s Meredith Goldstein. They explore the history of advice from the “Bintel Brief” of the Jewish Daily Forward to “Miss Lonelyhearts”, to “Dear Abby” and “Ann Landers” to today’s advice columns, and share some of their favorite questions and answers. Liana Finck is a graphic novelist who just published A Bintel Brief, an illustrated version of some of the letters that originally appeared in The Forward in the early 1900s. Margo Howard is the daughter of Ann Landers and the author of her own well known advice columns, “Dear Prudence” and “Dear Margo”; she is the author of several books, including most recently Eat, Drink and Remarry: Confessions of a Serial Wife. They will be interviewed by Meredith Goldstein, who writes the “Love Letters” column for The Boston Globe.
