Charlie Parker with Strings is one of the landmark recordings in all of 20th century music. The record paired the legendary altoist with a chamber ensemble and featured beautiful, accessible arrangements of selections from the Great American Songbook. The Highline Chamber Ensemble, in collaboration with saxophonist Nick Biello, will honor the 97th birthday of Charlie Parker and commemorate the famed "Charlie Parker with Strings" Carnegie Hall concert by performing a program of selections from the album.
Highline Chamber Ensemble is a conductorless string ensemble comprised of classically-trained musicians who believe in the power of music to bring people together. Highline revamps the perception of stuffy concertizing by emphasizing the audience experience.
Saxophonist and composer Nick Biello has been hailed as "a brash new voice in New York's vibrant jazz scene." A 2013 International a Saxophone Idol finalist, Nick has studied with the great Jackie McLean, himself a student of Charlie Parker.
