Film Description
Twyla Tharp ’63 has incorporated film in her dance-making work for the past fifty years. She created striking choreography for directors Milos Foreman, Taylor Hackford and James Brooks in commercial films, captured her concert work with Don Mischner, the BBC and PBS’ Dance in America and recorded decades of rehearsal footage for her personal archive and use. Working in her parent’s drive-in movie theater in California inspired Tharp to work with film for her entire career, and her video archive holds 50 years of an artist’s work as well as Tharp’s evolving physicality throughout her dance-making life. Tharp will join us for a conversation with Athena Film Festival co-founder Kathryn Kolbert and will share clips from her career.
