Discover a new work that takes on one of the most important challenges of our time, and enjoy Beethoven at his most exhilarating in the Aspen Chamber Symphony’s season-opening performance!
Jake Heggie’s Earth 2.0 gives us the planet’s perspective on its dysfunctional relationship with humanity. Heggie composed this unusual cross between an opera and song cycle for the astounding countertenor Key’mon Murrah, an Aspen alumnus with a spectacular soprano range.
Wagner called Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony “the apotheosis of the dance,” and even performed a solo dance of the entire work with Liszt playing his own piano transcription. At its premiere, Beethoven remarked that it was one of his best works. The achingly beautiful slow movement was so well-received it had to be encored, and later received many performances separate from the complete work. The sheer joy and vitality of the symphony’s finale will take your breath away!
