Two-time National Poetry Slam winner Anis Mojgani joins fellow bards Jericho Brown and New York State Poet Laureate Marie Howe, in the first of the Sheen Center's explorations of the Spoken Word.
Jericho Brown, Marie Howe and Anis Mojgani represent three distinct voices and reading styles, but they share in poetry's quest to unearth discoveries and surprising truths through precise and powerful language. Mojgani is the author of 4 books of poetry, The Pocketknife Bible (2015), Songs From Under The River (2013), The Feather Room (2011), and Over the Anvil We Stretch (2008). He is a two-time National Poetry Slam Champion and winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam. Howe, a former Poet Laureate of New York State and the author of three volumes of poetry, The Kingdom of Ordinary Time (2008); The Good Thief (1988); and What the Living Do (1997). Brown has two collections of poetry, Please (New Issues, 2008) and The New Testament (Copper Canyon 2014), which was nominated for the NAACP award for poetry and won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award.
