New Year's Eve Concert for Peace 2017

Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 7:00PM

The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine
1047 Amsterdam Avenue
at 112th Street
New York, NY 10025

Founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984, the annual New Year’s Eve Convert for Peace is a signature Cathedral event, gathering old friends and new for more than a quarter if a century. This year we begin with Haydn’s glorious Te Deum and continue with a US premiere of See the Wretched Strangers by composer Lucas Wiegerink. We will continue with a short set of songs about Mother Earth, and, to wrap up, we will celebrate the concert’s founder by performing chorales from Leonard Bernstein’s own Mass. Join us as we begin the New Year together, renewed in hope for the world we share.

Soloists:

Jamet Pittman, Soprano

Arthur Fiacco, Cello

Program:

Joseph Haydn - Te Deum

Lucas Wiegerink - See the Wretched Strangers (US Premiere)

Rupert Lang - Earth Teach Me

Frank Ticheli - Earth Song

Leonard Bernstein - Chorales from Mass

With guests Judy Collins and Jason Robert Brown
