The heart of a symphony orchestra is its string section, and the strings of the South Shore Symphony have long been distinguished by their polish and finesse. The violins, violas, cellos, and basses of the orchestra are featured in this program of masterworks for string orchestra. The Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, written for three different string ensembles playing simultaneously, was a popular success at its first performance in 1910 and has remained an audience favorite. The orchestra’s distinguished concertmaster and associate concertmaster, Catherine Fish and Adam Birke, will perform the Bach Double Concerto, one of the finest concertos of the Baroque repertoire. The Serenade for Strings of Tchaikovsky is one of the composer’s most popular works.
