Salón investigates the personas we inhabit in a social event; the struggle and the need to interact with strangers; the urge to see and to be seen, the ways in which we include or exclude ourselves in a social experience.
Salón explores the social need of dance, proposing an avenue where we can expose each other, accessing an exchange that is animistic and vital.
Salón is a bridge between a performance and a social event. During the evening, 17 performers and the audience share the same space; participating in the various emotional and physical landscapes that are conjured throughout the piece, a social transfiguration can be experienced.
Salón challenges the boundaries between presenting and watching, suggesting a reciprocal process of seduction between those who decide to witness and those that perform.
When does social dancing become a ritual of the body? How can we re-discover the visceral and universal need of dancing?
Salón is a place we know from our memories where, like in a dream, we can have a second chance to behave without restrictions. Here, madness is the beauty we find, a way to bring us back together.
This show will be videotaped. As performers and audience share the same space, your ticket purchase constitutes permission to use, reproduce, and/or publish photographs and/or video — including your image, likeness and/or voice - on web and print materials.
