BAX Scripts in Progress (SIP) series and the Brooklyn Writers Space join forces to stage
The Folk Play Project. Inspired by the power of folk music to share stories, tell truth, and bring people together, 6 new plays will be created in 24 hours, each inspired by a song from the American folk tradition.
On Saturday, October 20th, writers, directors, performers, and volunteers will enjoy an opening reception at BAX. After the reception, the writers will receive their folk song prompts and begin writing like mad. On Sunday morning, directors and actors will spend the day rehearsing the newly written works. At 7pm on Sunday, a live band will perform each influential folk song as an introduction to the six brand new plays being showcased.
The playwrights include William Croft Vaughn, Michael Freeman, LaShea Delaney, and Emily Feldman, with more writers and directors to be announced. Enjoy an evening featuring live music and original theatre produced by Scott Adkins, Gabe Miner, and Maya Parra.
