In 1890s Montmartre, Paris’ grungy bohemian quarter, a short painter draws us into his world of music, dancing, alcohol and women. His intoxicating colors attract us to the underworld freedom we all desire. Suddenly an upper class businessman named Charles Zidler enters and
promises to change the world with a brand new, electrified dancehall. He promises Toulouse endless Absinthe and his very own reserved table in exchange for an advertisement.
Patrons of all classes from all over Paris flock to the Moulin Rouge on opening night after seeing
Toulouse’s infamous “poster”. Once there, the upper class bourgeois clash with the lower class bohemians and Toulouse finds himself caught in the middle. New ties are created and old bonds must be broken when the world changes.
