Jeff Kaufman’s documentary "The State of Marriage" captures the untold story of how legal pioneer Mary Bonauto partnered with small town Vermont lawyers Beth Robinson and Susan Murray in a 2-decade long struggle that built the foundation for the entire marriage equality movement. Despite fierce opposition, Vermont became the first state to grant same sex couples legal recognition through a 1999 State Supreme Court decision and groundbreaking legislation in 2000, and the first to legalize marriage equality by legislative vote in 2009.

The Hollywood Reporter said, “'The State of Marriage' is an indispensable addition to the filmed history of the marriage equality movement. This fascinating story is a suspenseful nail-biter right up to the feel good ending.” "The State of Marriage" also features Freedom to Marry founder Evan Wolfson, HRC national field director Marty Rouse, civil rights legend Rep. John Lewis, and Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally.

In person for Q&A and Reception:
Director Jeff Kaufman and Producer Marcia Ross, and featured cast Marty Rouse (HRC), Roberta Kaplan (Influential LGBT rights lawyer), and Susan Murray (Co-founder of Vermont Freedom to Marry). Q&A Moderated by Michelangelo Signorile (Sirius radio host, Huffington Post editor-at-large).
