The Micki Grant Artists in Residence Program honors the first woman to write both music and lyrics and star in her own musical on Broadway — and the first woman to get a Tony Nominations in these categories. Her contributions to musical theatre remain a testament to her visionary artistry and advocacy for inclusivity and the York is dedicated to carrying her legacy forward. This trailblazing program supports early-career creators from historically underrepresented groups in American theater, amplifying their voices through this annual award. Each resident artist will be partnered with professional mentors across all aspects of theater: playwrights, composers, directors, designers, performers, admin...offering hands-on experience to refine and build their own creative, theatrical voices.
