In this rare open rehearsal, The Orchestra and Chorus of Emmanuel Music prepare Bach Cantata BWV 14 “ Wär Gott nicht mit uns diese Zeit”, conducted by Artistic Director Ryan Turner. In addition to hearing the work in progress, visitors will learn about the history, function, and structure of Bach Cantatas and their significance to Emmanuel Music, which has been performing Bach Cantatas in a traditional liturgical setting since 1970 under the direction of its late founder Craig Smith. This is a rare opportunity to witness the Emmanuel Music tradition from which many of Boston’s finest performers emerge, including Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. Following the rehearsal, Richard Beams will give a talk about the cantata.
