Siblings on the leading edge of Indian classical arts: Mythili and Aditya Prakash share a program -connected by birth and culture, they verge and converge. Originating in the temples of southern India, today, Bharata Natyam dance is an expression of devotion, beauty and grace for dancers the world over. Intricate rhythmic footwork rivals tap in complexity, the energy of pure technique requires the stamina of an athlete, but it is the complex language of abhinaya - body/gesture/facial expression, that elevates this form as the most virtuosic and theatrically expressive solo dance form in the world. Considered a star in India, dancer and choreographer, LA born Mythili Prakash is known for her exquisite beauty and exacting technique. Her performances always thrill and captivate, but her ultimate goal is for the beauty of her dance to inspire transformation- an experience known as rasa. Aditya Prakash is featured vocalist for his sister Mythili matching her technical sophistication with his own interpretation of the treasured lyrics composed by revered poets. For the second part of of this program his own Aditya Prakash Ensemble takes center stage. Returning from their own acclaimed tour of India they create an original hybrid sound that frames Aditya’s carnatic vocal style with jazz, funk, and altogether new sounds. Impeccable musicianship channeled by Aditya’s artistic vision and vocal leadership result in craft layers of sound, rhythm, and poetry. Their sheer talent and energy bring our worlds closer - there is no East and West only the ARATANI NOW.
