EVENT OCCURS OVER TWO DAYS (Saturday July 8 - 3:00pm-5:00pm; Sunday July 9 - 10:00am-1:00pm). PARTICIPANT NAME must be entered in NAME ON TICKET field during checkout.

Danielle Davidson will guide a five -hour weekend workshop over the course of two days, which will be open to the public as well as to the Summer Dance Intensive students that will focus primarily on finding joy in movement, expansiveness, enrichment, and will foster a judgment-free space, which allows for courage, compassion, creativity and authenticity to blossom.  Danielle will guide students through an exploration of floorwork and travelling phrases in the style of European contemporary dance techniques. Expect big, athletic, physical movement that is both fun and rigorous. Then, using a number of choreographic tools, composition tactics, and time-tested choreography-building scores, students will be challenged to create their own short choreographic works. This composition workshop will offer students the tools, which can be used in building their own movement vocabulary and authentic voice.

Day 2 of the workshop will begin with a contemporary-ballet barre. With a traditional ballet barre structure, the students will be led through exercises that encourage more release and expansion in use of the torso, arms and head. The remainder of the day will be structured as a choreographic lab where dancers will continue to explore and create their own vocabulary, gently guided by Danielle. Students can choose to share what they have choreographed at the end of day, if they wish. This composition workshop will foster learning and research rather than a finished product. The goal is to try, and to have fun.
