DESCRIPTION OF PIECE

A joy-filled circus exploring the hurt of bodies in motion (but funny!). Genderqueer juggler-ist and unicyclist-er Janoah the Jester (ze/zir) endures mysterious one-sided pain splitting zir body directly down the middle, smack dab in two – zir right side feels wrong, zir left side feels right. Janoah shares a journey of happiness through hurt, of being a being in between, of dastardly division, of binariness, handedness, sexiness, and other nesses! Who knows? We might even stumble upon a bit of wholeness. Featuring circus tricks, intimate storytelling, some sort of dance, perhaps some puppetry, barely any French AND maybe even multiple strip-teases.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

​​ Janoah Bailin (ze/zir), "Janoah the Jester," learned unicycling in the empty after-hour corridors of zir middle school. Ze traveled New England with Circus Smirkus and now coaches the Gym Dandies Children’s Circus of Scarborough (ME) and Children's Circus of Middletown (CT). Ze tours 3 original shows: "SpinS" ("Best Variety" London Fringe 2019), "meSSeS" ("Spirit of the Fringe" Elgin 2022), and "rOng," touring from Halifax and Orlando ("Pick of the Kids Fringe 2023") to Vancouver and San Diego. Janoah currently collaborates managing the Maine Youth Circus, and performs for festivals and stages, leaving behind a wake of tumbled juggling props.
